50th Anniversary Season El Latir del Tiempo/The Beat of Time

With the traditional colorful, passion and character of flamenco, Theatre Flamenco will present some of the most international renowned artists from Spain: dancer Pastora Galván, one of the top international stars of flamenco who made her professional debut with Theatre Flamenco at the age of 15, and flamenco singer Juana la del Pipa, who hails from a dynasty of artists from the flamenco cradle of Jerez de la Frontera in Southern Spain. Theatre Flamenco has also invited the accomplished artist and San Francisco native Cristina Hall who now resides in Sevilla. A frequent guest artist of the company, she is one of the few American-born artists to have established a successful career in flamenco dance in Spain.

The shows will feature reprised and new works choreographed by Theatre Flamenco's artistic director, Carola Zertuche. Born in Mexico, Zertuche is celebrating her 10th anniversary at the helm of the company this year, and her productions have been some of the most innovative productions staged in the Bay Area. One of the numbers Zertuche is reprising for the 50th anniversary will include adult guest dancers who will be selected at auditions in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The dancers selected in Los Angeles will perform in the Los Angeles and Santa Barbara shows, and the dancers selected in San Francisco will perform in the San Francisco and Mountain View shows. This is an amazing opportunity for local talent to have a chance to perform with Theatre Flamenco of San Francisco.
